Nickel. Nickel is silvery-white. hard, malleable, and ductile metal. It is of the iron group and it takes on a high polish. It is a fairly good conductor of heat and electricity. In its familiar compounds nickel is bivalent, although it assumes other valences. It also forms a number of complex compounds. Most nickel compounds are blue or green.
Keep ReadingIron ore is the raw material used to make pig iron, which is one of the main raw materials to make steel. Raw iron is alloyed with a variety of elements (such as tungsten, manganese, nickel, vanadium, chromium) to strengthen and harden it, making useful steel for construction, automobiles, and other forms of transportation such as trucks ...
Keep ReadingHardness can be improved by heat treatment that can cause the formation or precipitation of nickel phosphide. In order to achieve full hardness, the electroless nickel deposits are heat-treated at 400 °C for one hour in an inert atmosphere. High hardness and natural lubricity enable the electroless nickel coatings to have good wear resistance.
